INTREPID RETRIEVERS GUNDOG CHALLENGE SERIES

Coming in the spring of 2017, we will be starting a new dog competition series.   It will be a single marked retrieve competition.  The dogs who exhibit the best marking ability over a series of  8-12 retrieves will be placed and awarded prizes for the top 3 dogs in each division.  Divisions will be Unsteady, Steady, and Veteran.  Keep checking back for more information.  You can check out our facebook pages to get updates.  Intrepid Retrievers or Intrepid Retrievers Gundog Challenge Series.

Mission Statement:

Our mission statement and goal is to provide a competitive venue for working retrievers.  We are looking to provide a venue that is different from the AKC and UKC Hunt-Test and Trials.  These events are geared to all working retrievers with an emphasis on true gundogs who do the heavy lifting during the hunting season.  We will strive to provide an event that will further the training and expectations of retrievers and their handlers.  Every effort will be made to simulate hunting.  We want to foster a family atmosphere, and build new life-long friendships.

The final and most important aspect is we want to give back to those who have sacrificed to make this country so incredible, and to those who that work to give us hunting and outdoor opportunities.

We hope to establish 3-4 events starting in late April, late June, July, and August.   The first event will be an opportunity for the participants, and the organizers to develop an event that functions with efficiency, absolute fairness, and most of all fun.   The subsequent events will be dedicated to individual charities and organizations so that we can raise money to help fund the vital efforts of the organizations.  We are looking at Ducks Unlimited, Wounded Veterans Waterfowl Club, and other possible organizations such as St. Jude Children's  Hospital, and other Veteran Service Providers.

Dogs will not be required to be AKC or UKC registered, but we will require all dogs to be current on vaccinations.  The following is a list of required vaccinations.

Rabies

Distemper / Parvo

Kennel Cough

Lepto

Participants must provide shot records and dogs must be current.

Contest Rules:

The Divisions will have limited entries and an entry deadline.

Entries will be open for only 21 days.

Dogs must be handled by their owners, unless owner is disabled, or in an emergency.

Dogs will be scored based upon the success of each single retrieve on a scale of 1-10.

Demonstrating Marking ability and straightest lines will receive higher scores.

Retrieves will be between 50 and 250 yards.  Retrieves will be on both land and water.

Retrieves will simulate hunting as much as possible.

Handlers will call on a duck or goose call to start each series.

Decoys will be used on both land and water.

Dogs may be required to work off a stand, from a boat on the shore, and from a blind.

All contestants will be guaranteed 4 retrieves before the judges start to make cuts.

We will have a one-time buyback option to rejoin the competition should you be dropped.

Unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated in any way.

Unsteady Division:

Handlers will signal by duck or goose call for the gunners to begin.

Dogs may be restrained by the handler at the line until released by the judge.

Restraint may be by hand on a flat buckle collar, or by slip cord.

Dogs do not have to deliver to hand but must bring the bird or bumper to within 5 feet of handler.  Dropping Bird or Bumper multiple times will result in a lower score and possible failure.

If your dog leaves before being released you will have a 2 point deduction from your score.

Steady Division:

Handlers will signal by duck or goose call for the gunners to begin.

Dogs must be steady.  Judges will release handlers to send the dog.  Breaking will be a 2 point deduction to your score.

Dogs must deliver Bird or Bumper to hand.

Handlers in this division may be required to point a gun to simulate hunting.  Gun safety will be enforced.  Unsafe gun handling will result in a minimum of 2 points off your score, and may result in you and your dog being dropped.

Prizes:

Money, prizes and Awards will be given for the top three dogs in each division.

These prizes will approximate:

$500 in cash and prizes for 1st.

$300 in cash and prizes for 2nd.

$200 in cash and prizes for 3rd.

We will publish actual prizes once entries close.

We reserve the right to adjust prizes upwards or down depending upon entries.
